Ek Tha Tiger Movie Review

Ek Tha Tiger Review In Brief
An undercover RAW agent goes on a mission to keep tabs on a scientist suspected of anti-national activities and ends up falling in love with a girl with a dark secret…

Ek Tha Tiger Review Verdict
Action and cinematography is quite impressive, but the film doesn't seem to have the typical Salman touch…

Ek Tha Tiger Review Story Plot
A RAW agent codenamed 'Tiger' (Salman Khan) is despatched by his superior (Girish Karnad) to Trinity College in Dublin to keep an eye on Professor Kidwai (Roshan Seth), who is suspected of selling defence technology to enemy state Pakistan. However, the professor is quite a recluse and the only way to establish a rapport with him is through a dance academy student named Zoya (Katrina Kaif), who works part time as a house caretaker for the professor. A simple mission gets complicated when Tiger falls for Zoya and how Tiger's personal and professional lives collide, forms the rest of the plot.

Ek Tha Tiger Review Performance
This reviewer is a big fan of typical Salman Khan blockbusters like Wanted and Dabangg and maybe this is why yours truly was a bit disappointed with 'Tiger'. When he is not bashing up bad guys, Salman's Tiger is quite mild-mannered and soft-spoken. Hardcore fans of Salman, who might be expecting to see their favourite star delivering cool one-liners and swaggering with the inimitable rakish smile on his face, are possibly heading for a major let-down. However, all said and done, Salman does manage to put in a subdued performance (but who wants to see that, right?). On her part, Katrina looks as refreshing and easy on the eyes as ever. Girish Karnad as the RAW chief pulls off his role with a calm dignity and Ranvir Shorey as Tiger's sidekick Gopi too is passable enough.

Ek Tha Tiger Review Direction
At the very outset, this reviewer would like to doff his hat at the cinematography team and the location scouts. The film starts off like a typical spy flick-with an explosive action sequence followed by an intelligence briefing for a fresh mission. However, director Kabir Khan deserves credit for not overtly glorifying espionage agents. Salman's Tiger is indeed like a normal government servant, living in a modest house, going to work every morning like an Average Joe and eating dal-chawal. No vodka martinis (shaken, not stirred) or caviar for this spy (are you listening, Mr. Bond?). Moreover, the actions scenes have a Hollywood-ish look to it and are quite impressive. On the flip side, the story plot might remind you of another stylish spy flick starring another Khan, which released sometime back and as the director is not quite successful in bringing out the chemistry between Salman and Katrina, the romance between them doesn't have that magic to it. The second half also could have been a bit crisper.

Ek Tha Tiger Review Music
The music of the film is quite good enough with songs like Mashallah, a song with a Middle Eastern flavor, the romantic Laapata, Banjaara and Saiyaara. However, it is the Tiger theme instrumental track, which is sure to get the maximum claps.

Ek Tha Tiger Review Final Word
If you are looking for a slick spy thriller with loads of stylish action, do go for it…But if you are looking forward to a typical Salman fare, this Tiger's roar might not impress you…
