Actor Riteish Deshmukh’s father, Union minister and former Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, passed away this afternoon after a multiple organ failure. He breathed his last at a hospital in Chennai after suffering from a liver ailment. He was moved to Chennai last week from the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.
Sources claim that the 67-year-old politician had shown signs of improvement and been on and off the ventilator before being prepared for a transplant.
Vilasrao Deshmukh had been diagnosed with liver cancer. An earlier attempt had been made to harvest liver from a brain dead donor from a government hospital but it proved futile as the man died before doctors could operate on him on Tuesday night.

The sequel to the 2004 hit Masti, titled Grand Masti was set to begin shooting earlier this week. However, owing to Riteish Deshmukh's father Vilasrao Deshmukh's ailing health, the film's shooting has been delayed by a few days.
A source close to the project was quoted saying that the film has been in the writing process for the last one and a half years and was supposed to kick start this week however; with Riteish's father being unwell, he cannot be expected to act funny at a time like this.
Producer Ashok Thakeria was quoted saying that they are hoping to start shooting from 9th and that considering that they've waited 8 years to start the sequel, a little bit of a delay is not a big deal.
The film, directed by Indra Kumar, will have Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani reprising their roles from the original.
Riteish Deshmukh is one devoted son! The actor, who is riding high on the success of his latest release Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum, wants donate a part of his liver to critically ill father, Vilasrao Deshmukh.
The former Chief Minister of Maharashtra is suffering from liver cirrhosis and both his kidneys too have stopped working. The 67-year-old politician was not keeping well for quite some time and when his condition deteriorated he was admitted to a hospital in Chennai. He is presently under observation and doctors are trying to stabilise his condition.
Riteish is ready to donate a part of his liver, to help cure his father, however the doctors are yet to conduct tests to confirm whether the tissues of the two match or not.

Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum makers have followed an unabashed approach and declared right through their promotion that the film isn't meant for critics who want a seven course meal in a five star buffet. Instead, KSKHH is being touted as one masala dish that has been put together for the man on the street who wants his appetite to be satiated by desi stuff.
Says Riteish Deshmukh after a pause, "I am not saying that this movie won't be liked by critics. I am just saying that the last time when we brought Kyaa Kool Hai Hum critics didn't like it. Still it was a superhit. So I am just reminding the critics of that and I am sure that they will definitely enjoy it if they watch it without a pre-conceived bias!"
He has a good reason to be oblivious to the critical acclaim (or the lack of it) that the film may end up gaining. After all, though there are smiles on everyone's face, the scars still remain in the heart. When Kyaa Kool Hai Hum had released, some critics gave it zero stars. In fact a leading newspaper left the space for the review empty with a simple statement at the bottom reading that the film didn't deserve a review.
"No hard feelings though," says Riteish after a deep sigh. "They were judging my film, it’s okay. As an actor, I am not judging them as a person just because they gave my film a bad review. They are critics and have every right to say what they feel about a film. Eventually I am taking my film to the public and critics too are taking their review to the same people. It is the junta that decides the final outcome. They have grown when it comes to digesting such subjects and are actually waiting for more bold stuff to be churned out."
No wonder, even though it is a well spread out dish, the film would be looked at with a hawk's eye once it hits the screens this Friday.
