A conman has brought a few creases to Anurag Kashyap's forehead. Apparently, a man named Varun Gupta, is auditioning girls in small towns, claiming that he is casting for Kashyap's upcoming film Bombay Velvet.
When Anurag got to know about this, he immediately posted a warning on his Twitter account and also revealed that he has filed an FIR against the conman. "Avoid a man called Varun Gupta who is auditioning girls apparently for BombayVelvet in smaller towns. he is a con. An FIR has been lodged," tweeted the filmmaker on the micro-blogging site. He also posted the Facebook ID of the fraudster and asked his followers to beware of him.
Anurag, who received rave reviews for his Gangs Of Wasseypur series, is now gearing up for his directorial next 'Bombay Velvet', which will feature Ranbir Kapoor as the male lead.
The way Gangs Of Wasseypur II played over it's mid-week release, it was apparent that the film wasn't really headed towards a total that would have resulted in the makers smiling. The film opened on a barely average note and when the entire extended weekend passed by without any rise in collections, it was apparent that this Anurag Kashyap film would have a restricted run for itself.
The first week's collections (over 9 days) reads a little over 18 crores which just about manages to bring the film closer to the coverage mark. Taking into consideration the fact that this is a starless affair and not quite directed at the family audience, the film (in both parts) has at least brought Anurag into the commercial arena. Overall though the collections are still disappointing for a film which definitely deserved better. However, lack of star value, abundance of adult content (violence, language) and the biggest factor of them all - arrival of Ek Tha Tiger - means the film would see a premature end in theatres.

1 and 2' would end at over 50 crores mark which is the highest that an Anurag Kashyap film has ever scored at the box office. He would definitely be hoping for a better box office outcome in films to come, now that some substantial moolah has flowed in.
Acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who is recently riding a wave of success following the release of Gangs Of Wasseypur II might consider maverick director Ram Gopal Varma as his mentor, but Kashyap claims that he has not watched any of Varma's recent flicks!
In a recent interview, when asked for the reason behind this, Kashyap claimed that he just sees the trailers of Varma's films and tells him what he feels about it. Kashyap also added that he fears that if he watches Ramu's films and doesn't like them, he might just walk upto him and tell him things that Varma might not want to hear. Kashyap admitted that he wants to avoid such a situation as he personally still cares for Ram Gopal Varma.
However, Kashyap also hastened to add that he learned whatever he did about filmmaking while working with Varma on cult underworld film Satya and that this experience still reflects in his movies.
Amitabh Bachchan got a chance to watch Anurag Kashyap's Gangs Of Wasseypur II yesterday and tweeted about it later on.
Bachchan wrote, "Got a rare off this afternoon and saw GOW 2 .. quite impressive and rugged .. more violence, and some twists and turns unexpected !!"
The actor further tweeted, '" GOW 2 ... though I must say despite its brilliance I did seem to enjoy GOW 1 , more .. maybe because it came first !"

Fans of acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap might have been pleasantly surprised to see Kashyap in a television commercial for a leading chocolate brand recently.
However, the filmmaker revealed that he had no plans of acting in an advertisement and that it was a sudden decision. Kashyap said that the casting director asked him if he would like to act in the ad and Kashyap agreed to do so as he liked the concept and the director. However, the Black Friday director claims that it was a one-off thing and that he did not go looking for it.
The sequel to Kashyap's gangland saga Gangs Of Wasseypur released recently and is already being appreciated from all quarters.
Actor Anil Kapoor's son Harshvardhan is set to enter the film industry. The younger brother of actress Sonam Kapoor has taken courses in cinematography and screenplay writing in Los Angeles and is currently residing in Orange County. However, he will soon shift base to Mumbai to assist filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.
The youngster will be the assistant director for the Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma starrer Bombay Velvet.
Father Anil Kapoor was recently quoted saying that Anurag and Harsh know each other very well and that his son will learn a lot from the talented filmmaker.

After gaining accolades as a director on the silver screen, it seems director Anurag Kashyap now wants to try his hand at wooing viewers of the small screen. Sources claim that Kashyap, whose film Gangs Of Wasseypur II is to release this week, is in the process of launching a crime series for television.
It seems that Anurag had been flirting with the idea of getting into television and also assembled a fresh team for the task and they have already shot pilot episodes for the show, which has been approved by a channel.
Sources also claim that actor Gulshan Devaiah, who was seen in gritty films like That Girl In Yellow Boots and Shaitan' has been roped in for the television series. Incidentally, before turning to films, Kashyap wrote for TV series Kabhie Kabhie and a short film Last Train To Mahakali, which was aired on Star Plus.

It seems that Kashyap, who was shooting a sequence for Gangs Of Wasseypur II near a mosque in suburban Goregaon, was arrested by the police for a short time after suspicious locals reported his activities to the police.
Sources claim that as Kashyap wanted to capture the actual mood of the area, he did not take prior police permission for the shooting and instructed his team to shoot the area with hidden cameras to capture the ambience of the region. However, some locals saw these furitive movements and suspecting something fishy, informed the police, who promptly landed on the scene and hauled away Kashyap and his cameraman. Confirming the news, Kashyap said that after clearing the situation with the cops and completing the necessary paperwork, Kashyap and his cameraman were allowed to go and shoot the film.
Gangs Of Wasseypur II deals with the story of Faisal Khan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), who rises to power to control the Dhanbad mafia after his father Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee) is assassinated by rivals.
It is no secret that acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap was miffed with Salman Khan after Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap walked out of the sequel to the Salman starrer blockbuster and now it seems that Anurag has come up with an innovative idea to take potshots at the Bollywood brat by spoofing him through a character in his upcoming Gangs of Wasseypur II.
Sources claim that one of the characters named Definite in the gangland epic is a spoof on Salman as the character, played by Zeeshan Quadri, sports a hairstyle similar to that of Khan in Tere Naam and also spouts dialogues from Salman's hit film Maine Pyaar Kiya in the movie.

Sources claim that Anurag roped in a 12 year old slum girl, who earns her living by singing in trains, to sing the song chi cha leather in Gangs Of Wasseypur II. Confirming the news, Kashyap was quoted saying that music composer Sneha Khanwalkar spotted 12 year old Durga singing in trains and impressed with her talent, spoke about her to Kashyap and persuaded him to rope her in for the song.
Gangs Of Wasseypur II revolves around the life of Faisal Khan, who has to take up the reins of the Dhanbad underworld after his father Sardar Khan (played by Manoj Bajpayee) is assassinated by rival gang members. The film is slated to release on August 8 this year.

Sources claim that following wife Kalki Koechlin's suggestions, Anurag is planning to come up with a Broadway style musical based on the two parts of Gangs Of Wasseypur. It seems that Kalki, who is quite active in theatre, felt that the storyline of the two films would be perfect for a musical and the Shaitan actress might not only help with the creatives, but also work in the musical.
The second part of Gangs Of Wasseypur, which deals with the rise to power of Faisal Khan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is slated to release on August 8 this year.
Hamburg will play host to a retrospective, also featuring five movies by the much acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap, from July 11-16. The films, directed by Kashyap that will be screened are Dev D, Gangs Of Wasseypur, Gangs Of Wasseypur II, That Girl In Yellow Boots and Black Friday.
The retrospective is an integral part of the India Week 2012 in Germany at the Metropolis Cinema in Hamburg.
The director is expected to attend the event as the guest of honour. Filmmaker Fatih Akin of Turkish-German origin will introduce Kashyap and his works to the audience.
The event is being organized to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, India and Germany.
