After giving a stellar performance as the power-hungry Ramadhir Singh in the two Gangs Of Wasseypur movies, it seems that director Tigmanshu Dhulia, who made his acting debut with the Anurag Kashyap gangland flick, has developed a taste for acting.
Sources claim that Dhulia will once again face the camera for director Hansal Mehta's upcoming flick Shahid, a film based on the life of activist lawyer Shahid Azmi, who was assasinated in his office at suburban Kurla a few years back.
A source was quoted saying that like Anurag Kashyap, Hansal Mehta too is a good friend of Dhulia and as such, the latter could not refuse when Mehta approached him for the role in the movie, Dhulia will be seen playing the role of a senior lawyer, who mentors Shahid, played by actor Rajkumar Yadav, who was last seen playing the role of the sly Shamshad in Gangs Of Wasseypur II.
Gangs Of Wasseypur and Gangs Of Wasseypur II' star Huma Qureshi is planning to celebrate Eid with her family in Delhi'. At an Iftaari party for the Gangs Of Wasseypur II team, Huma said, "I am going to Delhi for Eid, my family is there. All I ask for is our hard work should be paid off the result should be good and positive. For Eid three basic things are we eat well, wear good clothes and get Eidi. No matter wherever we are we see to it that for Eid we all come together."
The actress, who played a huge fan of Madhuri Dixit in the recently released Gangs Of Wasseypur II also said, "I don't believe in comparisons. But if people are comparing me to Madhuri what more can I ask for. She is the icon for everyone."
The way Gangs Of Wasseypur II played over it's mid-week release, it was apparent that the film wasn't really headed towards a total that would have resulted in the makers smiling. The film opened on a barely average note and when the entire extended weekend passed by without any rise in collections, it was apparent that this Anurag Kashyap film would have a restricted run for itself.
The first week's collections (over 9 days) reads a little over 18 crores which just about manages to bring the film closer to the coverage mark. Taking into consideration the fact that this is a starless affair and not quite directed at the family audience, the film (in both parts) has at least brought Anurag into the commercial arena. Overall though the collections are still disappointing for a film which definitely deserved better. However, lack of star value, abundance of adult content (violence, language) and the biggest factor of them all - arrival of Ek Tha Tiger - means the film would see a premature end in theatres.

1 and 2' would end at over 50 crores mark which is the highest that an Anurag Kashyap film has ever scored at the box office. He would definitely be hoping for a better box office outcome in films to come, now that some substantial moolah has flowed in.
Zeeshan Qadri, who made his Bollywood debut as a writer with Gangs Of Wasseypur and also played the role of 'Definite' in Gangs Of Wasseypur II is not one to rest on his laurels, it seems. A mere few weeks after the two movies released, Qadri revealed that he is ready with three more stories!
Sources claim that Qadri has three scripts that are ready and awaiting final touches. It is being said that two of these projects are real life incidents- one being a crime-love story based in Bihar and a gangster story set in Meerut, whereas the third script is a fictional love story.
In Gangs Of Wasseypur II, Zeeshan was seen playing the role of Sardar Khan's son from a different wife, who grows up idolizing movie stars and has a hidden agenda to achieve supremacy over the Dhanbad underworld.
It was felt that decent buzz created by Gangs Of Wasseypur would positively impact Part II which was released over the weekend gone by. However that wasn't the case to be as the film barely took a 30%-40% opening with only select theatres registering better occupancy. Releasing the film in the middle of the week was anyways a risk and that showed in the footfalls as well since many were not even aware about this Anurag Kashyap directed affair running in theatres.
At his end the makers did well to release the film on Wednesday so as to enjoy a complete week before Ek Tha Tiger arrives. However the decision didn't really pay expected benefits as the film just about went through the motions right till the end of weekend and managed only a little over 16 crores in total. On a regular release it may have seemed like a decent haul since Gangs of Wasseypur is a star-less affair with an offbeat theme. Moreover these are collections accumulated only over five days. However the fact that the film has only seven days for itself before Ek Tha Tiger takes over means the film has very limited run.
In fact one of the other reasons for the film's below-par run is the fact that audience has been waiting for Ek Tha Tiger more than anything else which means other releases were bound to be crushed. In case of Gangs of Wasseypur 2, even though critical response ranged from average to excellent, that didn't really translate into fabulous collections. The way Gangs of Wasseypur 2 is going, it would end its run much below the lifetime collections of Gangs of Wasseypur which is around 28 crores. A better release timing would have definitely helped this well made film to score more.
However nothing could have possibly saved Second Marriage Dot Com, Overtime and 5 Ghantey Mien 5 Crore which released only in select theatres and disappeared unannounced while collecting barely in thousands.
Amitabh Bachchan got a chance to watch Anurag Kashyap's Gangs Of Wasseypur II yesterday and tweeted about it later on.
Bachchan wrote, "Got a rare off this afternoon and saw GOW 2 .. quite impressive and rugged .. more violence, and some twists and turns unexpected !!"
The actor further tweeted, '" GOW 2 ... though I must say despite its brilliance I did seem to enjoy GOW 1 , more .. maybe because it came first !"
The actor tweets further, "GOW 2 ... the performances, the natural and most vivid visuals and the unique music, so novel and attractive!!"

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who had planned to premiere his latest film Gangs Of Wasseypur II in Dhanbad, a small town in North India where the story is set, is a very disappointed man lately.
It seems that Kashyap's plans to conduct the premiere of the sequel to his gangland saga in Dhanbad has been shot down by the local police authorities. Confirming the news, Kashyap said, "Yes, the film was all set to be premeired and released in Dhanbad, Wassseypur this time, but due to some sensitive issues ,the police has not yet permitted for 'Wasseypur II' to be released in Dhanbad. This has in a way set me off because it was my dream to have a premiere of Part 2 in Wasseypur."
Incidentally, Kashyap was initially unable to screen the first part of the movie in Dhanbad either as locals were reportedly offended by some of the dialogues in the film, which showed the region in a negative light. However, he had been told that the Dhanbad locals had liked the movie and were looking forward to the sequel.
Gangs Of Wasseypur II, which releases today, revolves around the story of Faisal Khan, who is compelled to step up to the task of taking charge of the Dhanbad underworld after his father Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee) is assassinated.
Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who has mostly played rustic characters in most of his films, including the Gangs Of Wasseypur series, will soon trade his gamcha for a three piece suit for his next film, it seems.
Sources claim that Nawaz, as he is often called, will be seen playing the role of a US returned software engineer in his next film 'Aatma', which also stars Bong bombshell Bipasha Basu as a graphic designer. Keeping in character, Nawazuddin will also be seen sporting stylish and urbane attire in the movie, which is directed by Suparn Verma.
Meanwhile, Nawazuddin will be seen reprising his role as reluctant mafia heir Faisal Khan in the sequel to Gangs Of Wasseypur, which releases today.

The film starts off where the prequel ended-with the assassination of Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee). Sardar's eldest son Danish (Vineet Kumar) takes up the reins of the gang as younger brother Faisal (Nawazuddin) spends most of his time loafing with his drug addict friends. However, when Danish too is shot dead in broad daylight by their old foe Sultan (Pankaj Tripathi), Faisal is forced to step up to the task of taking control of the gang and avenging the deaths of his father and brother.

If Gangs first part had Manoj Bajpayee stealing the show, the sequel has Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the reluctant heir Faisal who shall win your heart. As a shy, awkward teenager, who grows into a cold blooded avenger, Nawazuddin might not look physically intimidating, but still portrays an air of understated menace quite effectively. Another actress to watch out for is Richa Chadda in this film. As the matriarch, who encourages her sons to go out and seek vengeance, Chadda gives the most impressive performances as the angst-ridden Nagma. Other actors like Piyush Mishra, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Raj Kumar Yadav too do justice to their roles.
Gangs Of Wasseypur II Review Direction
Just like the prequel, the sequel is not for the faint-hearted. If you don't mind seeing people bludgeoned or stabbed to death with a lusty aggression, then by all means go for it. The violence is raw, edgy and gritty and yet again, director Kashyap gets cheeky with it when he inserts comic sequences in the middle of gory bloodshed. Watch out for the scene where Sultan is being stalked through a market by Faisal's gang or the scene when a singer belts out filmy numbers at a funeral and you will know what we mean. There are many more such scenes and the viewer will end up guffawing in shocked delight even as he cringes at the same time.

Though this reviewer personally enjoyed the music of the prequel more than the sequel, Sneha Khanwalkar yet again manages to come up with a winner with gems like chi cha leather, electric piya and sinister kaala rey, which is worth lending an ear to.

There is a mad rush amongst makers to release their films before Ek Tha Tiger hits the screens next week. Though there are as many as five films lined up, the only one that can expect good footfalls is Gangs of Wasseypur II. Part I of the film saw good appreciation coming its way and turned into a neat grosser. Now Part 2 has created some good buzz around itself and the makers have done well to sustain momentum ever since the release of Part 1. Promos have been impressive and what goes in the film's favour is the fact that (especially) followers of Part 1 are eagerly looking forward to it.
Having said that, the film is again catering to the niche audience which means one can't be expecting any records to be broken here. Still, anything over 60% opening for this Anurag Kashyap film would be good enough reason to rejoice for the investors. Moreover, it would have to sustain very well over the weekdays as well since its run would be impacted by Ek Tha Tiger that arrives on Wednesday, 15th August. This is the reason why GOW 2 is also releasing this Wednesday so as to enjoy a full week run. Since Jism 2 hasn't really gained many brownie points for itself, GOW 2 can expect an uninterrupted run.
Other four releases of the week are Second Marriage Dot Com, Main Krishna Hoon, 5 Ghantey Mien 5 Crore and Overtime. Amongst these, only film which has seen some promotion coming its way is Second Marriage Dot Com whiles rest are coming literally unannounced. Second Marriage Dot Com deals with remarriage, Main Krishna Hoon is a live-animation flick, 5 Ghantey Mien 5 Crore is a thriller and Overtime is a dramatic affair. One waits to see whether these films actually manage to release on Friday. However, it would be futile to expect anything more than 5%-10% opening for them.

Director Anurag Kashyap has landed in trouble quite often while shooting for his gangland epic Gangs Of Wasseypur, but this incident takes the cake for sure! It seems that Kashyap, who was shooting a sequence for Gangs Of Wasseypur II near a mosque in suburban Goregaon, was arrested by the police for a short time after suspicious locals reported his activities to the police.
Sources claim that as Kashyap wanted to capture the actual mood of the area, he did not take prior police permission for the shooting and instructed his team to shoot the area with hidden cameras to capture the ambience of the region. However, some locals saw these furitive movements and suspecting something fishy, informed the police, who promptly landed on the scene and hauled away Kashyap and his cameraman. Confirming the news, Kashyap said that after clearing the situation with the cops and completing the necessary paperwork, Kashyap and his cameraman were allowed to go and shoot the film.

It is no secret that acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap was miffed with Salman Khan after Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap walked out of the sequel to the Salman starrer blockbuster and now it seems that Anurag has come up with an innovative idea to take potshots at the Bollywood brat by spoofing him through a character in his upcoming Gangs of Wasseypur II.
Sources claim that one of the characters named Definite in the gangland epic is a spoof on Salman as the character, played by Zeeshan Quadri, sports a hairstyle similar to that of Khan in Tere Naam and also spouts dialogues from Salman's hit film Maine Pyaar Kiya in the movie.

The filmmaker had been unable to show or promote the first part of the film in the region, infamous for coal mining mafia, as the audiences there had objections to the way the film had portrayed their area. However, now it seems that the film has pleased the viewers there, which has encouraged Kashyap to release the sequel titled Gangs Of Wasseypur 2 in Dhanbad and also conduct promotional activities in that region.
Where on one hand, Gangs of Wasseypur revolved around the life of Sardar Khan (played by Manoj Bajpayee), the sequel shall trace the rise to power of Sardar's son Faisal Khan (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui). The film is slated to release on August 8 this year.
Gangs of Wasseypur II is an extension of Anurag Kashyap's resolute crime series. The music album though neither comprises of any item number nor is there any retro number that could enhance the exquisiteness of a disco deck. Rather, this Sneha Khanwalkar composed album is very appropriately decorated with the kind of tracks that connect the movie with the core realm of affairs. The contribution made by lyricist Varun Grover has also tried to keep up with the theme of the movie.
The album starts with the track Chhi- Chha Leddar where vocals are given by a 12 year child artist Durga. The innocence and purity of a child's voice can be felt across the entire track. Use of funky instruments in the track sounds really fascinating albeit a bit strange. Varun's lyrics make things further interesting and attractive.
Next to arrive is Kaala Rey, a solo which is sung by Sneha herself. A slow track, its appeal is further accentuated by Varun's lyrics that haunt the listener, more so since everything in the track is conveyed as kaala.
Electric Piya follows next and the track begins with a harmonium that adds a desi Bihari folk tadka to the music album. Rasika D Rani's rendition is racy and catchy. Lyrics are interesting too and would certainly bring rural masses to the theater. Another version Electric Piya - Fused is a techno manifestation of the original.
Bahut Khoob, an experiment by Sneha, is more of a poetry being recited by a child without any pause. Though music conveys a qawali feel in the beginning, it turns out to be harsh and even a little weird as it proceeds. There is an '8 bit' version of the song that appears as well which is quite similar to the original but is unable to appeal to the audience. More so since the lyrics, yet again, are unclear and ambiguous.
Taar Bijli, a very apt folk song sung by Padamshree Sharda Sinha is really superb though and while the tune is slow here, the lyrics are humorous and catchy.
Aabroo, a qawwali by Piyush Mishra and Bhupesh Singh, seems to be a satire on the evils existing in the society. What works most are the lyrics which are simple and easy to understand.
Another addition to the album is, 'Perpendicular-Theme' which is a good fusion of various instruments and sounds brought to fore by the composer.
Next to appear is Moora, a slow number. This track begins with a beautiful amalgamation of piano and guitar while Sneha's vocals are soothing to ears. Moora - Morning is another variation to the song but doesn't appeal as much as the one that was heard before.
Tunya, another instrumental experiment by Sneha, begins with the kind of sound that reminds one of the kind that played along with ever-so-popular 'Super Mario' video game. This is further fused with harmonium quite remarkably, hence bringing a unique touch.
The album ends with KKL, a techno version of Keh Ke Loonga, the biggest chartbuster from Gangs of Wasseypur. This one begins with the sound of drums and is combined well with modern instruments, hence lending a true fusion folk appeal.
Overall though there is something still missing due to which Gangs of Wasseypur II settles down to be a barely average album. Yes, Sneha and Varun have tried to keep the songs quite different from the current musical trends in the industry. They have also provided audience with the true essence of the movie. However as a standalone album that may have a shelf life of its own, Gangs of Wasseypur II doesn't really have in it to cover a greater distance.
