The son of veteran character actor Suresh Oberoi, Vivek Oberoi made his Bollywood debut as the gritty gangster Chandu Nagre in Ram Gopal Varma's Company, where he was pitted against Ajay Devgn.
Vivek's performance got noticed and won him many accolades and he also won the Filmfare Award that year for Best Debut and Best Supporting Actor. Following this, Vivek appeared in many movies like Road, Saathiya and Dum. Oberoi also played the role of Kesu Firangi in Vishal bhardwaj's Omkara, which was a desi adaptation of Othello.
Vivek's another big break came when he played the role of gangster Maya Dolas in Shootout At Lokhandwala, a multi-starrer film starring actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty and Amrita Singh, to name a few.
Apart from acting, Vivek is quite active when it comes to social causes and has also lent his support to anti-smoking and anti-gutkha campaigns. Oberoi serves as the World Health Organization's anti-tobacco spokesperson and is also involved with several charities in Chennai and Mumbai. His philanthropic activities also include Project Devi, Cancer Patients Aid Association and Banyan, which works towards rehabilitating mentally challenged homeless women.
On 29 October 2010, Oberoi married Priyanka Alva, the daughter of Karnataka minister Jeevaraj Alva in Bangalore and the actor is expected to be a father soon. On the professional side, Oberoi will be seen in films like Kismet Love Paisa Dilli, Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story and Krrish 3, where he will be seen playing the role of an antagonist named Kaal.

Looks like Himesh Reshammiya sure knows how to honour friendship! The reason why he walked out of Soham Shah's upcoming film Sher is that Salman's rival Vivek Oberoi had recently joined the cast.
A source was quoted saying that Himesh has decided not to do the music for the film as Vivek had just joined the cast. Apparently, when Himesh was signed, he was told that the film would star Sonu Sood along with Sanjay Dutt.
Himesh holds Sanjay Dutt in high regard and he was doing this film only because Dutt had recommended his name. When Himesh learnt during the shooting schedule of the film in Rajasthan that Vivek had just joined the cast, he wanted to opt out. However, he stuck on only because of Sanjay Dutt.
However, things got worse when Vivek Oberoi was recently quoted saying that Sher is bigger than Tiger, indirectly referring to Salman's latest film Ek Tha Tiger. This is when Himesh walked out of the project without working on the final song. Himesh has always credited Salman for his success in the film industry.

Sources claim that Vivek's wife Priyanka Alva is pregnant by two months and is due to give birth sometime in February-March next year. Taking this in consideration, Vivek, who got married to Priyanka in 2010, has reportedly also requested the filmmakers that he is working with for allowing him some time off in February, so he can play the doting husband to his pregnant wife at the time of the delivery. However, this is not the sole cause of happiness for the Saathiya star. It is also believed that Vivek's sister Meghna Oberoi, who had married businessman Amit Bama, is also expecting and both the deliveries are scheduled to happen at around the same time!

Vivek Oberoi had quite a tough time shooting for a particular sequence from his upcoming film Jayanta Bhai Ki Luv Story.
The scene required the actor to get up from a charpai after hearing an alarm. However, the actor not only had to give 30 retakes for that scene but also took nearly two hours to finish it.
Producer Kumar Taurani was quoted saying that Vivek was too tired and hence could not give the correct expressions. Later, it was found that the actor has been shooting for three films simultaneously and hence, the delay to get the shot right.
Actor Vivek Oberoi has always strongly spoken against smoking and other tobacco products in the past and after appearing in an anti-smoking advertisement a few years back, the Company actor might be next seen urging people to stay away from gutkha.
Sources claim that following the government ban on the sale of gutkha in the state of Maharashtra, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is flirting with the idea of signing up Oberoi to be their brand ambassador for the campaign against gutkha. It is being said that though the organization has short-listed many actors, they are rather keen on roping in Vivek as he has promoted the anti-smoking campaign in the past. Incidentally, the actor is also the ambassador for the World Health Organisation (WHO) anti-smoking movement.
Vivek Oberoi will be next playing the antagonist Kaal in Hrithik Roshan starrer Krrish 3.
