When Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared, 'The Maoists have become the gravest threat to India’s internal security”, he was undoubtedly reflecting an extremely urgent concern that the entire country feels.
And yet, this ‘enemy’ is not an outsider; these are our countrymen, our own children that are fighting our state. India is at war with itself!.
Chakravyuh is the story of two best friends: Adil and Kabir. Adil Khan, a highly decorated police officer is posted to Nandighat, after a horrifying massacre of 84 policemen. Within days, he discovers that the Maoists, lead by the ruthless and charismatic Rajan, effectively control the area. They are able to swiftly thwart Adil’s most determined efforts. Despite holding a position of enormous power as the SP of Nandighat, Adil has never felt so helpless in his career.
But then, into his life, re-enters Kabir! Rootless, aimless, the quintessential rolling stone.. His only anchor in life has always been his friendship with and his loyalty for Adil. The maverick proposes an outrageous plan: He will infiltrate Rajan’s group, and be Adil’s informer. And, together they will smash the Maoist organization in Nandighat. In spite of his apprehensions, Adil agrees.
Sure enough, Kabir gets in and craftily wins their confidence, as only he can. He secretly begins informing Adil, who starts attacking the Maoists with great success. An enormous cache of arms raided, two top national leaders and 63 activists killed at an arms-training camp.. And, Rajan himself captured! Within weeks, Adil-Kabir turn the game, pushing the Maoists on to the backfoot.
But, Kabir also begins discovering a different reality. The abject helplessness of the rural poor, brutally displaced in the name of development, the fruits of which never reach them. Their land, their forest, their water snatched by their own government to allow big business to exploit the area and its people further. As the poverty and desperation rise, so does a cry of anger.. giving birth to the naxalite who believes the only way to counter this is with a gun!
Kabir also can’t help getting close to the activists; begins identifying with them. Rajan, Babu, Venu.. And Juhi. A dedicated revolutionary with a tender heart, who has seen pain like none other. She begins to fall in love with Kabir. The confusion in Kabir’s heart intensifies dangerously until he is on the horns of a ghastly dilemma. Who does he support now? Who does he fight? He finds himself in a chakravyuh from which there is no retreat now.
And yet, before Kabir can make one last desperate attempt to resolve this with Adil, events hurtle him into making choices that would put him at war with him. A war that would change the future of the region. A war that can only end when one of them destroys the other.
Sudhir Mishra wants to avoid a showdown with good friend Prakash Jha's upcoming political thriller Chakravyuh at the box-office and so has postponed the release of his film Inkaar.
The film is set to release on January 18 and contrary to speculations, the reason behind choosing this date is to make sure that there is a proper gap between Sudhir's film and Prakash Jha's Arjun Rampal-Abhay Deol film, which releases on October 12.
The two films, both starring Arjun Rampal, were supposed to release on the same date. Given Mishra's closeness to Jha and Arjun being a part of both films, it was decided to postpone Inkaar.
Sudhir Mishra was quoted saying that they needed an open week for a film like Inkaar and that with big films releasing in the remaining three months of the year, they decided on January.
Inkaar, Mishra's directorial next after Yeh Saali Zindagi, stars Arjun Rampal along with Chitrangda Singh.

Acclaimed director Prakash Jha, who has mostly made films with actors such as Ajay Devgn and Manoj Bajpayee, now wants to explore other actors in the industry-mainly the Khan trio comprising Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar.
In a recent interview, Prakash Jha, who is gearing up to promote his upcoming film ‘Chakravyuh’, said that he is looking forward to working with the three Khans and the ‘Khiladi’. Jha further added that he is working on scripts in which he can fit the actors in as he feels all the aforementioned actors are extremely brilliant and that he would enjoy working with them.
‘Chakravyuh’ boasts on an impressive star cast-Om Puri, Manoj Bajpayee, Abhay Deol, Arjun Rampal and Esha Gupta and revolves around the Naxal issues of North India.
The trailer of Prakash Jha's hard hitting political drama Chakravyuh was unveiled recently and one couldn't help but associate the storyline to an extent with the Amitabh Bachchan-Rajesh Khanna hit film Namak Haraam.
The 1973 film Namak Haraam revolved around a rich industrialist Amitabh Bachchan's childhood friend Sonu (played by Rajesh Khanna), who pretends to be a factory worker to win the trust of the labour union in order to break their unity but ends up sympathizing with them and locking horns with the management and his old friend.
Similarly, in Chakravyuh, Abhay Deol's character is shown to be a good friend of anti-Naxal cop Adil (Arjun Rampal), who infiltrates a Naxal group to win their trust and betray them later, but ends up understanding their point of view and changing sides, leading to a conflict between himself and his old friend Adil.
Based on the Naxal issues of North India, Chakravyuh also stars Om Puri, Manoj Bajpayee and Esha Gupta in pivotal roles.
Acclaimed filmmaker Prakash Jha, known for making hard-hitting social dramas, is presently gearing up to promote his next film Chakravyuh, which revolves around the Naxal issue and the director recently admitted during the unveiling of the film trailer that he agreed with the Naxal ideology of a classless society.
Talking about the film and the Naxal issues, Jha said, "Naxals are people just like you and me and they want a classless society where there is equality for all and I must say that I quite agree with this ideology."
Jha however hastened to add that though he agrees with their ideology, he doesn't support their methods, which usually involves violence. Chakravyuh boasts of an impressive star cast comprising Om Puri, Abhay Deol, Manoj Bajpayee, Arjun Rampal and Esha Gupta.
Model turned actor Arjun Rampal, who will be next seen playing the role of a tough anti-Naxal cop in Prakash Jha's upcoming hard-hitting drama Chakravyuh, has much to thank Jha for, it seems.
The hunky actor, who has been born and brought up in an urban environment, claims that working on Chakravyuh was a real eye-opener for him as it made him understand the Naxal issue. Rampal admitted that he was initially unaware about the Naxal issues that are plaguing the country, but working on the movie and interacting with Jha made him more knowledgeable about the plight of the affected people. In the film, Arjun's character will be seen torn between his duty and friendship after his best friend Abhay Deol turns to Naxalism.

In Prakash Jha's Chakravyuh, Arjun Rampal will be doing a couple of intimate lovemaking scenes with his co-star Esha Gupta. Such scenes used to make him very nervous during his early days in the film industry, but now he enacts them without getting stressed.
The actor states that he has shed all his inhibitions about doing intimate scenes. He says, "When I shot my first intimate scene for Raajneeti, I got little hesitant. I was like Oh my god, ye main kaise kar paunga, ye main kyu kar rha huun. But, then I thought that at the end of the day that's a part of my job and I have to do it. So, now when I shoot for any intimate scenes I just take it in my stride and do it."
Arjun further added, "Intimate scenes are done when the script demands. It doesn't make sense forcing it. In Chakravyuh, it's done in a very sensitive way. Only Indians come from a sense that sex is a taboo. But now our new generation doesn't take it that way. If you are a part of a good film, you will get the best. So, in Chakravyuh, the intimate scenes are incorporated in the right manner."
Chakravyuh, also starring Abhay Deol, Manoj Bajpayee and Om Puri, is set to release on October 12.
It is a well known fact that Prakash Jha's upcoming flick Chakravyuh deals with the issue of Naxalism and now, it seems that veteran actor Om Puri, who is known for his versatility and acting skills, might be seen playing a character based on real life Maoist Kobad Ghandy in the film.
Though Om Puri did not confim this, he did admit that there are a lot of similarities between the two. Puri further added that he is impressed and influenced by Kobad Ghandy's teachings. It seems that initially Jha just wanted to incorporate a few elements of Kobad's life in the character Puri is playing, but as the latter read more about the Maoist, who gave up a cushy South Mumbai life to turn to Maoism, he got much impressed and urged Prakash to make his character as close to Kobad as possible.
Ghandy hailed from a wealthy Parsi family in South Mumbai and also worked in London, but gave up his lifestyle to move to Nagpur with his wife to dedicate himself entirely to the cause of tribal rights, women's issues and campaigns on behalf of lower caste people and women.

Esha Gupta, who made a sizzling debut in Jannat 2, and will now be seen in Raaz 3 and Chakravyuh, is fast-acquiring a reputation of being a thorough professional.
So much so that she is giving a family wedding a miss as she will be busy promoting her upcoming film.
Esha says, ''The wedding is going to be a grand affair, starting from 24th August to 17th September. There will also be some royal pre-wedding functions that will be held in Delhi, Jodhpur and Ludhiana. I and my family are all very excited about it. But I am feeling sad at the same time because I won't be able to attend any of the functions. As Raaz 3 and Chakravyuh are nearing its release dates, we will be very busy with its promotions, media meets, city tours and other things. I really don't want to miss it as it will be the first wedding in our family... but I have no option.''
Let's hope that Esha's sincerity pays off and she goes on to become a huge star!
Actor Abhay Deol, who wowed everyone with his performance as a Tamil IAS official in Dibakar Banerjee's political thriller Shanghai, recently admitted that he got nostalgic about his college days while shooting for Prakash Jha's social drama Chakravyuh.
Abhay revealed, "Chakravyuh took me back to my college days. It reminded me of those days when I was 19-20. That time, I used to participate in rallies and campaigns because I always wanted to be a part of such social activities. I chose films as a career so that through films, I can give a good impact to the society by portraying such issues through my films. That's the reason why I did Chakravyuh."
Directed by Prakash Jha, Chakravyuh deals with the issue of Naxalism in North India and boasts of an impressive cast comprising Deol, Manoj Bajpayee, Arjun Rampal and newbie Esha Gupta, who will be seen in a de-glam role as a tough cop.
Newbie actress Esha Gupta, who made her Bollywood debut with Bhatt flick Jannat 2 and will be next seen in a de-glam role in upcoming Prakash Jha film Chakravyuh is reportedly quite an angry lady nowadays.
The reason- the makers of the film, which deals with the issue of Naxalism, have not featured Gupta in the poster of the film, which has not gone down well with the actress, specially so when there is a lot of buzz being made about Gupta playing a cop in a very de-glam avatar in the film. It is also being said that the miffed Gupta has decided to stay away from the first trailer launch event of the film as and when it happens.
