Kareena Kapoor is mighty excited about her upcoming film Heroine and says that the movie is her most 'special film', up till now. The actress revealed that she's worn over 150 costumes, in the film, which is a record in itself.
Talking to the media at a recently held event, the actress said, "Heroine is my most special film and Madhur Bhandarkar's most ambitious film. We have used over 150 costumes in the film, which I think has never been done before in any Hindi movie."
Team Heroine will auction all 150 costumes, post the release of the movie. When quizzed about the same Kapoor said, "Obviously it's a pleasure to auction all the costumes after the film."
Kapoor will essay the role of a film actress, Mahi Arora, in the movie, which also features Randeep Hooda and Arjun Rampal in the lead roles. Directed by Bhandarkar, Heroine, is expected to release on September 21, 2012.
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, popular for making women-centric films such as Chandni Bar, Page 3, Fashion and the upcoming Heroine, clarifies that he is not gender-biased and that his only claim is to make good movies.
Bhandarkar was recently quoted saying that for him it is necessary to make a good film, which garners success and critical acclaim and that he is never gender-biased. Although he agreed that the ratio of female actresses is more in his films but that depends on what kind of film is he making at that time.
His films have not only consolidated his reputation as a hard-hitting director, but also won the lead actresses, Tabu and Priyanka Chopra, National awards for their performances.
His latest film Heroine, starring Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda, is set to release on September 21.
Director Madhur Bhandarkar, who is usually known to be a very private person, celebrated his birthday with much aplomb yesterday.
On Sunday, while dubbing for the upcoming film Heroine, actress Kareena Kapoor surprised Madhur with a birthday cake and gathered the entire crew of the film.
Madhur, pleasantly surprised, said, "I am either working or out on a family trip on my birthday. It was very sweet of Bebo to give me this birthday surprise."
The most interesting thing to note was that on the very first day of the shoot of the film, it was Arjun Rampal's birthday, then Madhur's birthday on Sunday and the movie is set to release on Kareena Kapoor's birthday.
Quite co-incidental for the team of Heroine! The film is set to release on September 21.
A recent circular issued by the I&B Ministry (Information and Broadcast),which directs filmmakers to insert a disclaimer about the evils of smoking throughout the entire scene when an actor is shown smoking on screen, has not gone down well with filmmakers.
It now seems that filmmakers such as Mukesh Bhatt, Mahesh Bhatt, Madhur Bhandarkar, Sudhir Mishra and Siddharth Roy Kapur are planning to form a delegation and meet the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni in New Delhi soon.
An irate Mukesh Bhatt was quoted saying that though they have no objections about displaying a disclaimer before the start of the film and once after the interval, they find it ridiculous to display a disclaimer condemning smoking during the entire length of the scene. Apart from the smoking disclaimer, the filmmakers might also discuss other issues like objection to broadcasting of movies like The Dirty Picture and Jannat 2 on national television during prime time.
There has already been a major media buzz created around filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar's upcoming film Heroine and it seems that the acclaimed director is already thinking of future projects even before the release of Heroine.
Bhandarkar, who is lauded for making realistic films, was recently quoted saying in an interview that he wants to make a political thriller next. Madhur added that it has been nine years since he made Satta, a film that explored the dark nexus between politicians, police and the corporate world and he wants to try his hand at another political thriller now.

Madhur Bhandarkar's critically-acclaimed films Chandni Bar and Fashion are going to be showcased at the Indian Film Festival (IFF), to be held in Berlin from August 15 to August 19. Chandni Bar, starring Tabu, revolved around the gritty life of bar girls and the Mumbai underworld, while Fashion, starring Priyanka Chopra, dealt with the murky underbelly of the fashion world.
Bhandarkar says, “I am humbled by the love and support they are showing towards me. I am glad that my films have made a special slot for people around the world. I am looking forward to be there for the festival with two of my most loved films - Chandni Bar and Fashion."
The festival has dedicated a section called "Leading The New Wave" to the director, who is known for making hard-hitting and realistic cinema.
In Berlin, the director will also participate in an intense dialogue with his fans and also release the new Promo cut of the Kareena Kapoor starrer Heroine. Talking about the section, Festival's Chief Executive Officer, Alexandra Ccahuana Tito says, "I have seen almost every film of Madhur Bhandarkar and I always wondered why Germany doesn't get to see his work, so at IFF Berlin, we took this opportunity to screen two of his remarkable films, Chandni Bar and Fashion. I am sure Madhur and Priyanka Chopra's fans in Germany would be delighted with this."

In a recent interview, when asked about his penchant for making realistic films, Bhandarkar was quoted saying that he sees so many stories happening around him all the time that he doesn't feel the need to venture out to create a fantasy world. He further added that there is no bigger connect for audiences than to see a story that is based on what they see happening around them.
Heroine, which stars Kareena Kapoor, Randeep Hooda and Arjun Rampal in the lead roles, revolves around the rise to stardom and subsequent decline of an actress.
The trailer of the much-awaited Madhur Bhandarkar flick Heroine was launched on Wednesday night. The director, accompanied by his cast comprising Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta, was present at the launch.
At the launch, Bhandarkar said, "Heroine is not inspired by any one person. The movie is about Mahi and her journey towards stardom and the ups and downs that come with it. I am not saying it is not inspired by Hollywood or Bollywood, there is inspiration. I would say that 70% of it is realistic and 30% fiction. It is difficult to pin point one person on whom the movie is based."
Heroine is set to hit the screens on September 21.
National-award-winning director Madhur Bhandarkar released the first poster of his much-awaited film Heroine on the micro-blogging website Twitter, featuring actress Kareena Kapoor, on July 22.
The poster features Kareena dressed in a tank top, lying on a bed surrounded by glossies and pictures of herself.
The director tweeted, "Presenting the 1st poster of #Heroine to all my well wishers. Hope you like it. yfrog.com/ki1avrehj."
The film, also starring Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda, is set to hit theatres on September 21.
Actor Arjun Rampal was apparently overjoyed when Madhur Bhandarkar signed him up for Heroine opposite Kareena Kapoor.
However, latest reports suggest that Arjun Rampal is actually miffed with the director for the way his character has shaped up in the film. He isn't too comfortable with Kareena stealing all the limelight.
Certain crew members have noticed that Arjun doesn't look happy on the sets.
However, Bhandarkar has rubbished the rumours saying that Arjun is very happy with the film.
Heroine is set to hit the screens on September 14, 2012.
