Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai Music Review

Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai - The film's title reminds one of the famous evergreen romantic songs of Rajesh Khanna and takes you back to that genre. The moviedoes the same too since it comes from the same production house that gave romantic sagas like Aradhana and Kati Patang. Produced by Shakti Samanta's son and starring Aditya Samanta (his grandson) in the lead, the film automatically leads to good expectations, more so with Anu Malik as the music composer. There are seven original tracks and all are sung by the stalwarts in the music industry.

Pyaar Karna Na Tha marks the beginning of the romantic journey and is quite apt song for a love story. Mohit Chauhan has adorned the song with his silky-n-smooth voice. Late Anand Bakshi has written the lyrics of this delightful, soulfultrack where Shreya Ghoshal is the chosen one to sing the female version. Tostate the obvious, she has sung with all her heart and has made it a charming experience for the listener. Both the versions sets the tone for the movie and if picturised well, they could well be the kind of romantic tracks that find good attention from a listener. In fact the song also reminds one of Ek Din Aap…Maine Socha Na Tha from Yes Boss which was composed by Jatin-Lalit. Nonetheless, Pyaar Karna… is the one which can be put in repeat mode and still not get bored.

Suzanne D'mello begins Tere Bina Jee Na Lage with her signature style and while she is able to draw attention of the listener with her soft and velvety voice, Mohit Chauhan does a wonderful job in taking it forward. Their vocals, which are similar in style, compliment each other and create a heady mix for the listener. Kausar Munir's lyrics are relaxing and suitable for the song.

Roop Kumar Rathod enters the album with Naina Thak Thak Haare. It's a traditional judai song, which is a requirement in a traditional love story. It does its job pertinently and conveys the emotion easily. Anu Malik has chosen the singers well while keeping in mind that a number like this requires the voice of someonelike Roop Kumar as you need to touch a listener's heart. It's after ages that one hears an old formulaic track again and frankly, it's a welcome change from the techno and hip-hop sound of today. Faiz Anwar Quraishi has written the lyrics and well captured the essence of the situation.

Kyon Kyon is a fun filled song that has the playfulness and sensuousness of young lovers. Shreya Ghoshal and Shaan team up for this one and are able to play the game of one upmanship between lovers, something which is the core of the track. Though the song is nice and is different from routine, it lacks a punch andleaves the listener craving for more.

Big Fat Indian Wedding is decent but fails to do its job of becoming a blockbuster. Yes, it's a foot tapping number sung by Neeraj Shreedhar and Anmol Malik (while being written by Anu Malik himself) but doesn't quite all the way and ends up being barely average.

Last but not the least is Angel my Angel which is sung by Anu Malik's lucky mascot Alisha Chinai along with Sonu Nigam. It's a Hinglish soft romantic number which conveys the emotions of a young couple in love. However, even though it hasbest of the singers, it does not have the magic to seize listener's attention. At best, it appears to be an amalgamation of two-three romantic tracks and ultimately fails to rise to the occasion.

Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai is a romantic film which means the tracks are bound to be romantic. In that aspect, there are plenty in store here even though they don't turn out to be the kind that evergreen tracks are made of. Album reminds one of the kind of music that Anu Malik had composed in his Filhaal and Yaadein days though an overall magic is missing. Still, one would better go with a wait and watch approach since romantic numbers generally grow in repeated hearing and one just hopes that the same happenswith this album as well.
