Jism 2 Verdict
Visually stunning thriller and love story with a twist, high on drama and erotica; Randeep Hooda is stunning as the brooding anti-hero, and director Pooja Bhatt creates visual magic with Sri Lanka and Sunny Leone, heading the production design and matters at the helm extracting a good performance from the debutant better known for other dubious skills in front of the camera, both together with great elan; the writing is also high prose in parts, with Shagufta Rafique and Mahesh Bhatt coming up with dialogue exchanges in the second half that make us sit up and think.
Jism 2 Story Plot
Izna (Sunny Leone) is a porn star who still misses her former lover Kabir (Randeep Hooda), an agent turned assassin. So when Izna is informed by intelligence agent Ayan (Arunoday Singh) that Kabir is a dangerous criminal, who is plotting against the country, Izna agrees to use her feminine wiles to entrap Kabir and retrieve certain mysterious data in his possession. However, what Izna doesn't count on is old flames rekindling and threatening to make her lose herself once again. Whether Izna manages to accomplish her mission and come to terms with her confused feelings for Ayan and Kabir plays out in the taut second half.
Jism 2 Review Performances
Adult entertainment star Sunny Leone makes her Bollywood debut with this flick and the sultry Sunny does bring her oomph factor to the table with this erotic thriller. Though Sunny manages to emote passably, it's her sexual charisma and raw sensuality that will surely take your breath away. As far as the male leads are concerned, Hooda plays the role of the brooding and troubled assassin superbly, with an intonation and diction that resonates high drama through the cinema hall, pulling at your heart when he yearns for lost love, or when he confronts his demons of the past, both personal and professional. Arunoday Singh, who impressed everyone with his debut flick Yeh Saali Zindagi gives a decent performance but is overshadowed by Hooda. Singh plays the role of an intelligence agent but seems determined to behave like a love-struck teenager and the way he throws tantrums and sulks when he suspects that Izna might have fallen for Kabir during the course of the mission is unintentionally funny. Arif Zakaria as the intelligence unit chief is reasonly good, playing a conventional high-ranking babu.
Jism 2 Review Direction
As far as the locales, production design and cinematography go, this Pooja Bhatt helmed flick emerges a winner. However, the film does suffer from a script that is a bit too pat for emotional reasoning. For example, why would Izna fall so passionately in love with Kabir after a single encounter and land up at his place with a letter written with her blood, a rather strong reaction for a noble act of the hero. Moreover, the relationship between Ayan and Izna is not really explored effectively. At one point of time, Ayan seems interested in Izna only for the role that she plays in the mission and the next minute, he is seen crying pathetically for her and rebelling against his superior officer, which doesn't come together extremely well. However, Pooja deserves full marks for presenting Sunny Leone the way she has and the erotic quotient in the movie has an undeniable appeal. The sensual scenes between Sunny and Randeep and the twist in the climax are the highlights of the film, but the true strength of this film is its visual richness and sophistication, making all the lingerie and skin against the backdrop of Rajasthan and Sri Lanka look topnotch and never stooping to indecency for pure titillation, a true achievement for a highly erotic film of this genre. A seminal film that should herald a change in morality standards of Indian cinema, ushering in sensuality and aesthetical erotica in place of crass obscenity in the guise of double-meaning lyrics coupled with offensive hip-thrusting dance item numbers
