Gattu Movie Review - In Brief
An illiterate boy impersonates as a student to enter the school premises to use the terrace for flying kites.

Gattu Movie Review - Verdict
Gattu is worth a watch for both kids and grown-ups!

Gattu Movie Review - Story Plot
Gattu (Mohammad Samad) is a young orphan who works with his stern uncle in the latter's scrapyard. Though the uncle wants the young Gattu to pay attention to work, the young boy is more interested in flying kites. When the efforts of all the local kite flying experts to achieve supremacy over the mysterious Kali, a black kite, fails, Gattu takes it upon himself to cut the kite and acquire it. When the resourceful Gattu is informed that he stands a better chance of cutting Kali if he flies his kite from the tallest structure, the determined Gattu steals a school uniform and impersonates as a student at the local school so as to use the terrace for his kite flying.

Though Gattu's mission initially is to just acquire the black kite at any cost, he ends up making friends with other students in the school and ropes them in for his so called mission. How Gattu manages to achieve what he wants at the end of the day forms the rest of the story.

Gattu Movie Review - Performances
What this reviewer particularly liked about the film was that unlike other films, where children are mostly portrayed as innocent and naïve; Gattu shows the other side of children- their determination, their cheekiness and their resourcefulness. Mohammad Samad as Gattu is no underdog-indeed, he is an adventurer, ready to take risks to achieve what he wants, not to mention cheeky enough to come up with innovative plans at the last minute. It is without doubt very admirable to see the way the illiterate but street-smart Gattu 'infiltrates' the local school and passes off as a student long enough to get what he wants. The other characters in the film too perform well, but it is Mohammad Samad who deserves the most claps…

Gattu Movie Review - Direction
Rajan Khosa does know how to tell a story well. His Gattu, though revolving around children rooted in poverty, does not aim at evoking sympathy. On the contrary, the film is quite cheerful with a dash of adventure and suspense (like the mysterious Kali and the person behind it) and it is no surprise that the film won accolades at international film festivals. Moreover, the kite sequences have been brilliantly shot, making one hold his/her breath as the warring kites battle in the azure skies.

Gattu Movie Review - Final Word
Like mentioned earlier, Rajan Khosa's Gattu is a film that can be enjoyed by both children and grownups so try not to give it a miss by mistaking it for a typical kiddie flick…
