A few years back, it had been announced that acclaimed director Mira Nair is all set to make a film on Gregory David Roberts' bestseller Shantaram, which was supposed to star Hollywood hottie Johnny Depp and Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan.
However, the project got shelved in 2007 following a strike by the Writer's Guild of America and it was being said that even the Big B had given up hopes about the whole enterprise. However, now it seems that Nair is gearing up to revive her project and following his short role in The Great Gatsby, even Amitabh Bachchan has started showing interest in the international project. It is being said that Nair recently visited the Big B residence in suburban Juhu and when Bachchan displayed an interest in the project, Nair was encouraged to revive it.
Interestingly, Bachchan will be seen playing the role of a Jewish gangster in The Great Gatsby and is slated to play the role of a Mumbai don in the film adaptation of Shantaram.
