The director maintains that the film revolves around the life of an Odissi dancer, but it was only Protima Bedi's dance that was an inspiration. He clarifies that the story has nothing to do with her life.
Shilpa Shetty plays a dancer in the film, while Chinese actor Xia Yu essays the role of a painter.
